The "Manne Trip" (which means that no females are invited on the road trip) started in 1989 when Pieter Combrinck phoned his mate Japie Stapelberg, and asked him what he has planned for the next few days. The issue of the trip being "by invitation only" is still valid today, as it ensures compatibility within the group and results in an enjoyable trip.

The Manne Trip is not part of any group or club or association, but some Ulysses members do participate. The trip participants are generally from Klerksdorp, Welkom and Johannesburg, with many of them having done quite a few Manne Trips.

The 23rd Manne Trip 2011 started on Saturday, 3 September 2011 from Klerksdorp. 9 days – 3600 kms – lekker weather – good mates – lots of fun – Africa’s a tough Country, but someone has to do it!!!!
